It's Hip to Know

Watch here for loads of hip facts to know about your nighbors. When you see someone of another culture or religion you can be in the know about their beliefs. Getting to know your neighbors is the best way to help combat bias and create a community of hope!

Hip Facts:

  • Not all Arabs are Muslims. Arabs belong to many religions, including islam, Christianity, Druze, Judaism, and others!
  • Sikhism is a belief system that teaches justice, social harmoney, peace, and the equality of all humankind.
  • Sikhism places great value on human life as an opportunity to live the highest spiritual life.
  • Hinduism was not founded by one individual. Rather it is a fusion of many religious beliefs and philosophical schools.
  • Hinduism is said to be a religion with a million and one gods.
  • "Islam" literally means "peace through the submission to God."
  • 99 percent of people wearing turbans in the U.S. are Sikhs.
The Islamic concept of recollection is similar to the Evangelical Christian idea of being "born again." Both see religion reminding us of a long-forgotten close relationship to God and ask us to embrace it. That is hip to know!
